Subban, Backstrom and Letang among those with strong showings over the weekend, a Columbus-Chicago trade, lots of lineup news, Fantasy tips and more in Scott Cullen’s Statistically Speaking. Tom Rathman Super Bowl Jersey . HEROES P.K. Subban – The Canadiens defenceman put up a goal and two assists in a 6-2 win against Los Angeles Friday. Subban now has 13 points (5 G, 8 A) in his past 14 games, a span during which he has maintained his team-leading 53.7% Corsi. Nicklas Backstrom – Washington’s playmaking centre had a hat trick in Saturday’s 4-2 win over Tampa Bay. They were Backstrom’s first goals in 10 games, but he still has 14 points (4 G, 10 A) in his past 11 games. LW Alex Ovechkin and RW Tom Wilson each had two assists; Wilson has four points, all assists, in the past four games. Kris Letang – The Penguins puck-moving blueliner scored a couple goals in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Columbus. Letang has eight points (4 G, 4 A) during a five-game point streak. ZEROES Flames forwards – Joe Colborne (1 shot attempt for, 13 against, 7.1%) and Matt Stajan (1 attempt for, 9 against, 10.0%), who had missed so much time early in the season, were stuck in the defensive zone in Friday’s 3-1 loss at Pittsburgh. Brandon Bollig (0 attempts, 8 against, 0.0%) was at the lowest end of the shot attempt spectrum. Erik Haula – In just 6:57 of even-strength ice time against Arizona Saturday, Haula was on for one shot attempt for and 18 against (5.3%). Red-light district: Martin Jones – Surrendered six goals on 20 shots against Montreal Friday. It’s the first time in his career that he’s surrendered six goals and first time this year allowing more than three goals in a game. Anton Khudobin – Gave up five goals on 23 shots against Florida Saturday and the Hurricanes goaltender had been riding high with a save percentage of .926 until this year’s .892 mark. He’s also winless in nine starts. Ryan Miller – Allowed five goals on 23 shots in a 5-1 loss to The Rangers Saturday and he’s stuck with a miserable .900 save percentage this season. BLACKHAWKS-BLUE JACKETS SWAP Jeremy Morin – The 23-year-old winger didn’t have any points in 15 games with the Blackhawks this season, but he’s managed to be a possession ace (61.7%) since the start of last season while playing mostly a fourth-line role for Chicago. Morin does have something of a scorer’s pedigree, however, scoring 55 goals in 117 AHL games since the start of 2012-13 and should get an opportunity to play in a scoring role with the depleted Blue Jackets. Tim Erixon – A first-round pick of Calgary in 2009, Erixon had played 70 NHL games with the Rangers and Blue Jackets before getting a new start in Chicago. He’s been a third-pair/spare-part defenceman and the Blackhawks have a number of those – David Rundblad, Klas Dahlbeck, Adam Clendending, T.J. Brennan – looking for playing time since Trevor van Riemsdyk got hurt. As it is, Erixon should get a decent opportunity to play regularly in Chicagos top six and he can sink or swim based on that performance. LINEUP NEED TO KNOW Sidney Crosby – The face of the NHL is now more swollen as Crosby has officially been diagnosed with the mumps. He heads into his quarantine with no goals and two assists in his past five games. Zdeno Chara – Boston’s difference-maker on the blueline returned Thursday after missing 19 games with a knee injury. He’s not in prime form yet, but having him available to eat up minutes will help the Bruins’ beleaguered defence. Mike Green – Washington’s puck-moving defenceman returned Thursday but played under 18 minutes in his first two games back. In 21 games this season, Green has played fewer than 18 in seven games, five of them in the past six games. Derick Brassard – Has been diagnosed with mumps, but after a pair of assists against Vancouver Saturday, has seven points (2 G, 5 A) during a five-game point streak. Mike Cammalleri – The Devils forward played only 6:57 Saturday at Dallas before leaving with a lower-body injury. Rob Klinkhammer – Recently acquired from Arizona, Klinkhammer moved up the depth chart to play with Evgeni Malkin and Blake Comeau Saturday. Ben Lovejoy – The Ducks defenceman returned to action Friday after missing six weeks with 21 games with a broken hand. Stephen Weiss – The resurgent Red Wings forward suffered an injured shoulder Friday, then missed action Saturday. Travis Morin – The productive AHLer (24 points in 23 AHL GP this year) is getting another chance with the struggling Stars, and was effective on a line with Erik Cole and Curtis McKenzie – all three with better than 75% possession with more defensive zone starts – in a 4-3 win against New Jersey Saturday. Sam Gagner – Arizona made Gagner a healthy scratch Saturday. He has 10 points (3 G, 7 A) in 29 games this season, on a career-low scoring pace (0.34 points per game). Chris Phillips – The Ottawa Senators changed coaches and that changed the approach, as the veteran Phillips, who had been playing 22:22 per game – his most since 2007-2008! – was a healthy scratch for Saturday’s shootout win at Boston. Ryan Suter – Minnesota’s workhorse blueliner, who leads the league with 29:27 time on ice per game, played 33:47, and recorded two assists, in Saturday’s 4-3 win at Arizona. Suter has the second and third-highest single-game ice time totals this season. Ryan Ellis – Nashville’s blueliner has taken on a bigger role, especially recently, as this top five single-game ice times of the season have all come in the past seven games, with his ice time ranging between 21:37 and 24:25 during those high points in usage. Robyn Regehr – The veteran rearguard played a season-high 25:33 against Toronto Sunday. Paul Stastny – The Blues’ centre played 12:43 Saturday, in his return to Colorado. It’s been a disappointing start to the season for Stastny, who has 12 points (7 G, 5 A) in 22 games, his lowest scoring rate (0.55 points per game) of his career to go with subpar (49.7%) possession. SHORT SHIFTS Stars C/RW Tyler Seguin had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 4-3 win over New Jersey. He leads the league with 23 goals and 38 points after scoring 23 points (16 G, 7 A) in the past 17 games…Rangers LW Rick Nash had a pair of assists in New York’s 5-1 win at Vancouver Saturday, and had another in Sunday’s 2-0 win at Edmonton giving him 12 points during a 10-game point…Blues D Kevin Shattenkirk recorded a goal and an assist in St. Louis’ 3-2 overtime win at Colorado Saturday. In his past nine games, Shattenkirk has 10 points (3 G, 7 A) and ranks second in defence scoring with 26 points (4 G, 22 A) in 30 games… Ducks C Ryan Getzlaf put up a goal and an assist in Friday’s 4-2 win at Edmonton and did it again in Saturday’s 4-1 win at Winnipeg. In the past 14 games, Williams has 12 points (6 G, 6 A), after putting up four points (2 G, 2 A) in his first 16 games this season…Kings fourth-liners Kyle Clifford (29 for, 6 against, 82.3%) and Trevor Lewis (33 for, 9 against, 78.6%) had outstanding possession stats against Montreal and Toronto over the weekend. Flyers LW Brayden Schenn picked up a pair of assists in Saturday’s 5-1 win over Carolina, giving him seven points (2 G, 5 A) in the past seven games…RW Wayne Simmonds added a goal and an assist and has six points (5 G, 1 A) in the past five games…Wild RW Jason Pominville recorded two assists in Saturday’s 4-3 win at Arizona, giving him seven points (2 G, 5 A) in the past seven games…Coyotes LW Mikkel Boedker had a pair of assists in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Minnesota and has six points (2 G, 4 A) in the past six games…Coyotes C Antoine Vermette contributed a goal and an assist in the loss, giving him seven points (3 G, 4 A) in the past eight games…Avalanche LW Gabriel Landeskog picked up a couple assists in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to St. Louis, giving him 13 points (3 G, 10 A) in the past dozen games…Sharks C Joe Thornton had his third consecutive multi-point game, putting up a goal and an assist against Nashville Saturday…Maple Leafs RW Mike Santorelli continued his strong run with a goal and an assist, while playing a season-high 19:29, in the 4-3 shootout win against Los Angeles Sunday. In the past 10 games, Santorelli has 13 points (3 G, 10 A); not bad for a free agent signed for one year at $1.5-million…Sabres D Nikita Zadorov had the first multi-point game of his career with a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win vs. Florida. Chicago’s fourth line didn’t start a shift in the offensive zone in a 3-2 loss at the Islanders Saturday, but still Marcus Kruger (1 shot attempt for, 12 against, 7.7%), Daniel Carcillo (3 for, 17 against, 15.0%) and Ben Smith (3 for, 15 against, 16.7%) were really buried in their own end. Sharks G Antti Niemi turned back all 29 shots he faced in a 2-0 win over Nashville Saturday…Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 26 of 27 shots in Friday’s 3-1 win vs. Calgary…Maple Leafs G Jonathan Bernier turned aside 27 of 28 shots in a 4-1 win against Detroit Saturday…Ducks G Frederik Andersen had 27 saves on 28 shots in a 4-1 win at Winnipeg Saturday…Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 of 30 shots faced in a 5-1 in at Vancouver Saturday…Predators G Pekka Rinne had 32 saves on 33 shots in a 2-0 loss to San Jose Saturday…Blackhawks G Antti Raanta stopped 23 of 24 shots in a 2-1 win over Calgary Sunday. FIRSTS Sven Andrighetto – In his first week with the Montreal Canadiens, the 21-year-old right winger scored a pair of goals and added an assist in three games. Craig Cunningham – The Bruins rookie forward scored his first NHL goal in Saturday’s 3-2 shootout loss to Ottawa. It was his first point in seven career NHL games and he had 15 points (5 G, 10 A) in 21 AHL games this season. Brandon Davidson – A sixth-round pick of the Oilers in 2010, Davidson played his first three games of the season for the Oilers last week. Pineda won his second straight start last Wednesday against Chicago, as he held the Cubs to just four hits over six scoreless innings to run his record to 2-0, while lowering his ERA to 1. KWaun Williams Super Bowl Jersey . Coach Randy Carlyle didnt know the severity of Bozaks injury. Bozak left the bench and went down the tunnel early in the second period, returned to play a handful of shifts and then did play in the third. https://www.49ersrookiestore.com/49ers-Jeff-Wilson-Jersey/ . -- Billy Donovans bench came up big, bailing out top-seeded Florida in a tight game against what was supposed to be an overmatched opponent. GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Carolina Hurricanes have spent a good portion of the past two weeks on the road and had mixed results. Theyre headed home for a long break with a nice road win, thanks to their top line. Eric Staal had a goal and two assists, Jeff Skinner scored for the third straight game and the Hurricanes ended a four-game road trip with a 3-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night. "Its a big win for us. You look at the standings, you have to pick up points wherever you can," Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller said. "But its the way we won. At the end of a long road trip, we fought and played hard to beat a good hockey team." Playing on the road for the sixth time in seven games since Dec. 3, the Hurricanes withstood an initial flurry and goal by Phoenix to pull out an impressive road victory before getting five days off. Justin Peters was solid and made some big saves down the stretch, stopping 37 shots. Nathan Gerbe tied the game in the second period and Skinner put the Hurricanes ahead early in the third with his eighth goal in six games. Staal put the finishing touches on it with an empty-net goal, giving his line -- he skates with Skinner and Tuomo Ruutu -- 16 goals and 17 assists since Skinners return from injured reserve on Nov. 21 "We are getting chances," Skinner said. "Sometimes thats the way it goes, it goes in, sometimes it doesnt. We got some chances and I was lucky to capitalize on them." Phoenix played a solid game, going up 1-0 in the first period on Paul Bissonnettes first goal in two years. The Coyotes had plenty of chances over the next two periods, but couldnt get anything else past Peters, and lost a key faceoff in the third that led to Skinners goal. "We werent bad tonight, but we could have been way better," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "We could have used a spark from somebody tonight and it didnt come." Coming off a difficult stretch, the Coyotes had earned points in three straight games, including a 6-3 win over the Islanders on Thursday, despite missing several key players. Phoenix was short-handed again against Carolina. Captain Shane DDoan missed his fourth straight game with an illness, defenceman Derek Morris was out for the fourth straight game and left wing Lauri Korpikoski sat out his 11th straight. Raheem Mostert Super Bowl Jersey. The Coyotes have been getting by with production throughout their lines and the start of Saturdays game was no different. Generating some good early chances, Phoenix scored midway through the first period, when Jeff Halpern kept the puck in Carolinas zone and found Connor Murphy at the right point. He fed a pass to Bissonnette in the crease and the fourth-liner redirected it in for his first goal since Nov. 19, 2011, against Buffalo and first at home since 2010. "Its just good for confidence, just getting chemistry with our line," Bissonnette said. "Weve got guys in and out of the lineup and our line keeps changing, so its nice to play with the same guys and get comfortable." The Hurricanes took over after that. Gerbe tied it at 8:50 of the second period, keeping it on a 2-on-1 and beating Smith to the glove side with a wrister for his seventh of the season. Peters made a huge save late in the second period, stopping Antoine Vermette on a breakaway, and Skinner put the Hurricanes up by scooping up a loose puck off a faceoff and whipping a shot past Smith 3 minutes into the third to score in his third straight game. Peters turned the Coyotes away when they turned up the pressure late, including a spectacular save against Mike Ribeiro. "We talk about timely goals; he made some really timely saves at the right time of the game," Muller said. "He looks real confident." So do the Hurricanes after a big road win.
